I made this dress somewhere in Spring of 2020, but it took me 2 years to actually take pictures of the finished garment!

The project
This is the sixth project from the Breaking the Pattern book, and I have to say that it is my favourite pattern from the book! I love the fit and I love the detail with the ties in the front.

For this pattern there are 3 options, namely a dress, jumpsuit or blouse, and there is a choice between sleeveless and long sleeves. The jumpsuit has te same splits as the Rae Pants, so if I choose to make the jumpsuit, it will have to be with the legs sewn all the way closed…
Construction
I made the straight size 4, in a very pretty fabric from my local fabric store. The problem with the fabric however, is that it absolutely does not work with my complexion, and so, I still haven’t worn the dress out of the house.
I shortened the dress by 25 cm (and then used a 4 cm hem) and closed the front slit of the skirt part.

I hate that the book refers to previous projects for certain steps in the instructions. In this case how to sew the ties, how to hem the slit and how to insert the pockets.
Other than that, the instructions are pretty straightforward and I had no problem putting the Solina Dress together.
Conclusion
I love the shape of the dress, but I think I will shorten it to blouse length to hopefully get more use out of it.

Definitely the star of the book!

I think it turned out beautiful and it suits you very well! A very nice project indeed. Maybe you need to get invited to a wedding or something in order to wear it, but other than that, it is beautiful.
